17-year-old Myron Yarde, an upcoming music artist, was stabbed to death
Tributes have been paid to a 17-year-old boy who has become the capital’s latest victim of knife crime.
Aspiring music artist Myron Isaac Yarde, who has been described as a “good,” “humble” boy was stabbed to death last night in New Cross, London, after an altercation with other teenagers.
Yarde, who had previously attended Deptford Green School, was attacked in Casella Road at approximately 7.40pm.
Yarde was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead just a few hours later.
Police have launched a murder investigation and have arrested two teenagers, a 15 and 16-year-old, for questioning.
On social media friends and family have expressed their shock and grief at the loss of a young boy who has been described as “such a good guy” with “such a happy face.”
Many have questioned why Yarde, a promising musical talent, was targeted. The victim’s cousin said, “When I found out, I just couldn’t understand.” “He had been rapping for a couple of years. He was in music school. He was such a good rapper - he was talented. He was well-known locally and really well-liked,” recalls a friend of the victim.
Others have pointed to the fact that Yarde’s violent death is part of a disturbing pattern whereby young lives are being ended prematurely by knife crime. As one of the victim’s friends put it: “Another brother dead. Using knives doesn’t solve problems, it fuels them and now another [boy] has left this earth.”
Last year 15 teenagers in London were the fatal victims of stabbings.
The police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
