The leader of Tottenham’s Global Light Revival Ministries church is currently being held by police in Ghana on suspicion of murdering his pregnant wife. 28-year-old Eric Isaiah Adusah, who has been preaching across Britain since 2010 and claims to be a prophet, was arrested after his pregnant wife’s body was found by hotel staff on March 20.

Charmaine Adusah, 41, and her husband were in Ghana to attend a church conference and it is believed that they had fallen out over how long they should spend in the country, with Mrs Adusah wishing to stay far longer than her husband.

The couple had checked into the Royal Mac Dic Hotel in Koforidua, south Ghana, for five days on March 16. According to reports, Mr Adusah cut short his stay, leaving the hotel on March 17 saying that he had business to attend to in the UK and telling staff not to disturb his wife.

Three days later the hotel staff became suspicious when Mrs Adusah was yet to leave her room since her husband’s departure and they entered the room using a spare key. Mrs Adusah was reportedly discovered in the bath tub “lying prostrated with a white towel wrapped around her, almost in a decomposed state.”

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We can confirm the death of a British National in Ghana. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time." They also added that, “Mr Adusah has not requested consular assistance.”

Charmaine (maiden name Spiers), a graduate and former NHS radiography assistant originally from Scotland, had married Mr Adusah last September and was deeply involved in the church.

A message on the Global Light Revival Ministry church website reads: "Global Light Revival Ministry regret to announce the passing away of our 1st Lady Charmaine Isaiah Adusah. […] The Ministry express our deepest sympathy to our Prophet Eric Isaiah and the Speirs family and stand with them in prayer at this time. Thank you. God Bless."

Not everyone was happy with the union of Charmaine and Eric. Mrs Adusah’s childhood friend Christine Stephen, 42, said: ‘We thought he tried to cut her off from us, that he had brain-washed her. What person declares himself a prophet? Charmain was religious but she wasn’t a pastor.”

Mrs Adusah has an eight-year-old son from a previous relationship who is now staying with his father.
