21-year-old Kyle John Farrell died in hospital last week after being stabbed in the chest in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police and paramedics arrived at the south Liverpool house of Farrell’s girlfriend, Farieissia Martin, where the father of two was found with a single stab wound to the chest.
Farrell, who lived with Martin and his two young children, is believed to have been stabbed by his girlfriend following an explosive argument.
Farieissia Martin appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court yesterday charged with the murder of her boyfriend at her home in Charlecote Street, Dingle.
In an emotional statement Mr Farrell’s family described the young man as, “a devoted father, loving son, [who] will be missed by all the family and friends.”
Paying tribute on Facebook, Kyle’s cousin, Kirstie Rowson, wrote: "RIP my fab cousin. […] Heaven has gained another beautiful angel too soon. Heartbroken isn't the word. […] You will be loved and missed forever".
Farrell was an amateur footballer, playing for Wirral’s Kent FC. Steve English, manager of the Kent FC Sunday league team which the young man played for as a defender, said: "I am lost for words - it's just shocking really.” He added, "It seems so surreal because it's Kyle. He was a brilliant kid. […] As a person he was quiet but he was loved by everybody. He was a family man with two kids - football was his release."
As Mr Farrell’s family and friends entered the courtroom yesterday Ms Martin covered her face and cried. Martin was remanded in custody and will appear for a bail hearing tomorrow, with a preliminary hearing taking place on December 8.
