Two men have now been charged with murder following a young man being stabbed to death last Friday on the Middlesex University campus.
Noor Hassan Barre, 22, died from stab wounds to the chest after a fight which broke out following a university social event. He was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition but was pronounced dead not long afterwards.
Mr Barre, of north London, is not thought to have been a student at the university in Hendon where he was attacked. It is believed that Barre was attending an event called The Big Jam, put on by the university as part of its “Big Draw Week.”
A Met police spokesman reported that, “Police in Barnet were called to Middlesex University, Greyhound Hill, at 1.09am following reports of a fight. [..] Officers attended and found a 22-year-old man suffering from serious injuries following a stabbing.”
The police are also looking into reports that a group tried to gate-crash an event organised by the university’s African Caribbean Society at around 1am.
Middlesex University have released the following statement: "Fortunately, incidents such as these are rare at our university. However, Middlesex University takes a very serious line to violence on campus and any students found to be involved will be removed immediately.” The university also said that they “are cooperating fully with the police as their investigations continue."
Sodiq Adebayo, 21, of Ilford, and Kevin Mao, 20, of Tottenham, have been arrested over the fatal stabbing and will appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates Court today charged with murder.
Two others, a 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, were also arrested over their suspected involvement in the case but have been released on bail until later dates.
The friends of Mr Barre have expressed their grief over the young man’s untimely death. Mr Barre had been with five of his friends when the attack occurred. They fought to save his life before the ambulance arrived.
One friend described the murder victim as, “the sort of person no one had issues with,” adding that, “It just appeared to be an argument that escalated. I don’t think he knew the people who did this.”
Friends have described Mr Barre, who was a former student at Harrow High School and Stanmore College, as an aspiring musician. One friend said, “He used to go to a studio in Harrow and he was into his rap, so I think he was trying to get that on track. It’s such a waste. He had a brother. His family are devastated.”
